About

My name is Siôbhan (pronounced sha-vawn; pronouns: she/her) and I'm a sixth-year PhD Candidate in Developmental Psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles.

I love learning about how people come to recognize and label emotions in others and in ourselves, teach others about emotions, and feel and regulate their emotions. Emotions are the foundation to so many basic functions that make us human. Yet emotions, in how we express and perceive them, are not universal, so how it's imperative that we learn about the processes and biological mechanisms that support emotion learning in typical and neurodivergent development!

My program of research utilize behavioral and neuroimaging (functional and resting-state functional MRI) methods to examine emotion perception and social information processing among typically developing youth and youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and sensory processing challenges.
